Day 9 possible the best walk yet this year

Snow had arrived to stay by morning with promise of a winter storm to come this weekend. A trip to Safeway then.......

A lovely walk in the afternoon, a new route with an incredible view of the mountains. I need to get the WT out camera

Day 7 and the mountains came back!

I wasn't feeling any great desire to go walking today, too many hills yesterday! Despite the sun shining and the mountains being visible.  To motivate myself  I wrote the outstanding cheque to pay for the rubbish pickup and delivered it on one side of town then walked to other side of town (it's a small one) and picked up my new computer glasses and shopped at Safeway.  I tell you, it's the high life here!

Mountains!

Makes me smile!

I had to buy an inexpensive pair of gloves in Safeway, it was colder than it looked.  Prayed as I walked for a friend undergoing surgery today.

Day 6 and a sunrise?

Up betimes and out before the dawn to huff and puff up to the airport road to see the sunrise....
Enterprise School

Don't forget to look back sometimes.....

At the top of the hill, breathless? Me?

The sunrise...…!

Looking down to the highway

The brewery mailbox!

I challenged myself to seeing twenty sunrises in each month.....I think this still counts even though there wasn't one, after all I DID get up at silly o'clock!  The WT doesn't agree!

Upped my game slightly, we are going for 3.5 miles per day this week.  I can feel the effect of the hills in various parts of my anatomy tonight, it has to be said!

Day 5 and the end of the first (incomplete) week

Made it to the end of the week that began on Wednesday, three miles plus every day, 10,000 steps every day (gave myself a day off on Saturday) and Dry January got a bit wet with a glass of wine when we were invited out for lunch today!

The weather deteriorated rapidly, it began to snow a bit and the mountains disappeared but still she walked.....very peaceful, no one except for a lone dog walker was daft enough to be out and three miles accomplished and some evening slightly arty shots evolved......
Our local brewery

Fine view of the mountains and the porta loos

Thought it was time I did a selfie...….

Tonight the three miles seemed much easier, must be feeling better so next week I'm aiming for a daily three and a half miles.

Day 4 and sun again!

Late up again, shame on us, the World Traveller went off to work on the house and 1 decided to combine grocery shopping and a walk.  Despite the sun the wind was chilly.  Very restrained in Safeway and had room to spare in my backpack so the walk back was not nearly so arduous as it has been.

Didn't really make me laugh.....
Apart from walking, another lazy day with some knitting and reading.  Two sorts of muffins made, need to get them in the freezer before they vanish!  Did the requisite three miles but still need a few steps to reach 10,000.  Evening walk it is then...….nope, gave myself the night off!

Day3 of 366 and some sun!

Goodness, our little mountain town looks so much cheerier in the sunshine.  Boots on and a swift three miles accomplished.

The back of our fairly impressive courthouse
Enterprise is the county seat of Wallowa county

Canada Geese tracks
Well on track, I've actually done the miles required for this week but can't stop now!  I do hope there is more sun tomorrow.  Today I felt human for the first time in three weeks after this wretched flu, will be glad when the cough disappears though.  Eldest Oregon grandson is pretty sick with it tonight.

Day 2 of 366

Late start to another grey day so photographs not of the best but a chilly walk with the WT in the morning then a nip down to the newly opened Humane Society charity shop.  Found an excellent casual handbag that will hold some knitting etc and tried not to look at the kittens waiting for adoption!  Really must try to get the 10,000 steps and three miles in in just one walk, I'm shattered tonight!

It's a dummy, don't panic!

Oregon passed a law beginning on January 1,
no more supermarket plastic bags,
not sure if you have to pay for these

With thanks to the World Traveller ( his was a better picture)

An ominous sky that came to nowt!

A train in a garden
just looked back at a draft post that never made it to the blog......it was this link that got me enthused.........dated around January-ish in 2017

#walk1000miles from the UK's Country Walking magazine.  It sounds a lot, doesn't it, but actually translates to 2.74 miles per day.  Everyone is approaching the challenge in their own way.....and goodness, there are some inspiring, sad, cheerful, hopeful, funny, determined people out there, large to small, young to old, in the UK, Australia, the US and lots of other places too!  We are cheering those who manage a mile or those that do 20!

and nothing has changed, it is still one of the best groups on FB!

and finally......a far away view of the polar dip lunatics who on the first day of every year plunge in the glacial Wallowa Lake

No time for resolutions.....it's time for challenges, too many to mention all at once but here are the first two.....

  • Post every day to this blog
  • Walk every day
So, doing well so far on Day 1, aren't I?  And Dry January proceeding well too......
