The Morris Minor.....

....built back in the day when Great Britain had a viable car industry.
First appeared in 1948, built under the leadership of
Alec Issigonis who went on to design the most iconic
of British small cars - the Mini!

In AD 122......

...the Romans began to build a wall, to keep out
the barbarians (aka the Scots!), now it seems,
nearly two thousand years later,
those same Scots want to keep the English out
and govern their own country!

A good day...

...the WT safely home, meeting with a blogging friend
for the first time, a wonderful kitchen store, resisting buying
some licorice and a visit to a beautiful garden centre (but somehow
no photographs were taken of the plants!)

Light...

From within or from behind, a light shines through us upon
things, and makes us aware that we are nothing,
but the light is all.  ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Hebden Bridge...

...was so well known for clothing manufacture
it was known as "Trouser Town"!

Another away day with the Embroiders Guild and then on to the
Bankfield Museum in Halifax

In 1811.....

...Jane Austen came to Bakewell and one hundred years later
so did we!  The tea room looks like one that she
might have visited, doesn't it?

A delicious cream tea, complete with lavender bun!

The cups and saucers were all beautiful
and all different!

Miss Austen, alas, would not have been able to purchase
these wonderful Stef Francis threads!

There is nothing......

--absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats."
- Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows
Lots of storms today, but enough time between the raindrops to walk down to the river and watch the boats.  It was sunny but quite windy so must have been fairly difficult to row upstream.  We live just a few hundred yards from the River Weaver, and can watch the barges and the pleasure cruisers making their way along.
